Chateau Musar 1966 refers to a vintage of aged fine wine from the renowned Lebanese winery of the same name.

“I was trying to make wines with my approach, but still under the influence of Bordeaux.

Today it is tasting very well.

Completely different from my ’64.

I tried to move in this new direction, but it was a very difficult vintage.

It started to drink well 20 or 30 years ago: not the biggest Musar but light in colour, with good acidity.

This is the year that Gaston was born, and this is the wine we served at his wedding.”

– Serge Hochar, Musar winemaker

1966 Chateau Musar tasting notes

Wine critics consider Chateau Musar Red 1966 a classic vintage with significant longevity; furthermore, they praise it for its well-balanced, supple, and rich flavour.

According to Chateau Musar’s own tasting notes, the winery describes the wine as mature but very firm and balanced, having tasted it over 50 years after bottling.

Moreover, wine experts consider the 1966, along with the 1970 and 1977 vintages, “bigger” years with heftier structure.

Perhaps more importantly, wine connoisseurs note it as more of a Cabernet Sauvignon–dominant year.

In addition, it also contains Cinsault and Carignan.

Notably, the wine has 14% Alc./Vol.

Additionally, it presents a “spicy, savoury and leathery” nose with flavours of dried leaves, black truffles, and tea.

Furthermore, the palate delivers a chewy, silky, and mouth-filling experience with a long finish.

Interestingly, the flavour showcases an attractive, surprising freshness, and the tannin has smoothed out into a rich texture.

Other notes include blackberry, plum, fig, tobacco, and cedar.

In terms of appearance, the wine shows maturity, lightness, and a copper-coloured hue, with a thin rim.

Overall, 1966 Chateau Musar stands out as quite full-bodied, very fragrant, rich, and supple.

Finally, enjoy it with grilled meats, game dishes, or aged cheeses.
