1956 vintage wine for sale – Paul Roulot-Hervé Meursault Rouge 1956
Paul Roulot-Hervé (now Domaine Roulot) Meursault Rouge 1956 is an exceptionally rare, historic vintage of red Burgundy.
This bottle dates back to the era of Paul Roulot (and Hervé Roulot), the generations preceding the current winemaker Jean-Marc Roulot.
Although producers in Meursault are globally iconic for Chardonnay, only about 13 hectares out of nearly 400, on the other hand, dedicate themselves to red wines (Pinot Noir).
Furthermore, the amount they produce corresponds to almost 2.5 million bottles.
Slightly less than 50,000 bottles are red wine.
While Meursault lacks Grand Cru vineyards, nevertheless, several highly regarded Premier Cru vineyards exist.
Les Perrières, Les Genevrières, and Les Charmes are world-class vineyards and can rival the most expensive Burgundies.
Consequently, wine enthusiasts find a red Meursault from this era very difficult to locate…
Known as the “Black Year” in French viticulture, for this reason, 1956 brought extreme frosts and severe winter weather.
This led to historically low yields and scarce production.

Paul Roulot-Hervé
Historically Paul Roulot-Hervé was a highly rare line of wines, most notably this 1956 Paul Roulot-Hervé Meursault Rouge.
This name represents the early history of what is today Domaine Roulot, a world-renowned wine producer.
Guy Roulot later gained widespread prominence for the domaine, which his son, Jean-Marc Roulot, currently manages.
The 1973 vintage of Roulot’s white premier cru wine Meursault Charmes ranked second in the historic Judgment of Paris wine competition.
Guillaume Roulot founded the domaine in 1830.
Wine collectors seek surviving bottles from the mid-1950s under the Paul Roulot-Hervé label as rare historical artefacts and trophy bottles.
