This famous sherry producer founded itself in 1835; however, it came to Oporto in 1895.
Initially, Hunt Roope first represented it; nevertheless, after a disagreement in 1896, they started to declare their own port.
From 1901 onward, they became the sole buyers of Quinta de Roriz, which the van Zeller family owned.
In 1983, Vasconsellos bought the House, and subsequently, in 1989, Sandeman acquired this firm and ended the Gonzalez Byass Vintage Port name.
Declared by 26 shippers, 1955 was, in fact, the largest declaration since 1927, and it stands as one of the most underrated Vintages of the 20th Century.
Moreover, drinking it now brings real pleasure; consequently, the best will last well into the 21st Century if well-cellared.
Therefore, 1955 González Byass Vintage Port serves as an ideal 70th birthday or anniversary gift.
