Arden Fine Wines’ Founder & MD Stuart George talks about a bottle of 1965 Fonseca Guimaraens Vintage Port from the cellar of the late British television producer, documentary filmmaker, journalist, and television executive Desmond Wilcox (1931–2000).
Not a widely declared Port vintage, sandwiched between the much superior 1963 and 1966, and until I found this bottle I didn’t know that Fonseca made any vintage wine in 1965.
Fonseca Guimaraens is the “second wine” of Fonseca. The best vintage Ports made by them are labelled simply as “Fonseca”.
