Romanée-Saint-Vivant is a Grand Cru vineyard for Pinot Noir red wine in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy.

This vineyard is situated within the commune of Vosne-Romanée.

It takes its name from the Abbey of Saint Vivant, which in Medieval times owned several vineyards among the Vosne-Romanée Grands Crus.

There are several different vineyard owners in Romanée-Saint-Vivant today, although Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is the largest.

  • In 1966, the last member of the Marey-Monge family leased the remaining 5.28 hectares to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
  • Then they gave them an option to be first buyers if the vineyard would come up for sale.
  • In 1988, the Neyroud family bought the vineyard, which they had inherited from Ms Marey-Monge.
  • Wine from the time when Domaine de la Romanée-Conti leased it, rather than owned it, also has the name Marey-Monge on the label.

The Domaine produces only Grand Cru wines, including this Romanée-Saint-Vivant, made from their 5.28-hectare plot.

DRC Romanée-St-Vivant 2003

The 2003 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) Romanée-St-Vivant is a powerful and opulent expression of this Grand Cru, shaped significantly by the torrid heat of the 2003 European summer.

It is a full-bodied, velvety wine with aromas of black fruits drenched in dark chocolate, liquorice, and spices.

In 2003, DRC produced, specifically, 11,924 bottles of Romanée-St-Vivant.

The vines for this Grand Cru are located in Vosne-Romanée, immediately below the Richebourg and Romanée-Conti plots.

Although DRC has managed the site since 1966, they became the full owners of the Marey-Monge parcel in 1988.
