Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) is a legendary estate in Burgundy, France, that produces some of the most sought-after and expensive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines in the world.

Therefore the Romanée-Conti vineyard is its most famous Grand Cru, and it is known for producing wines of exceptional finesse, richness, and longevity.

Interestingly, the Romanée-Conti vineyard is a small, 1.81-hectare plot in the heart of the Grand Cru belt in Vosne-Romanée.

Notably, its mid-slope position and shallow, iron-rich limestone soil contribute to the creation of a Pinot Noir with unsurpassed elegance and silky texture.

The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti exclusively owns the vineyard as a “monopole.”

The winemakers produce a 100% Pinot Noir.

They limit production to only about 6,000 bottles made per year, contributing to its scarcity and high value.

1964 DRC Romanée-Conti

The 1964 harvest yielded muscular, powerful, yet fragrant wines with excellent structure and acidity.

Therefore the 1964 Romanée-Conti from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is an elegant and complex red Burgundy wine made from 100% Pinot Noir.

Consequently, some lucky tasters have experienced a “simply brilliant” nose with “superb breadth of spice, earth, leather and smoky game nuances”.

Additionally, one reviewer described it as a “memory in a bottle” with notes of “damp earth, dried leaves, and truffle”.

Moreover, the resulting wine is described as a “purist’s Romanée-Conti,” with good acidity and structure.

Interestingly, the harvest for DRC began on October 4, 1964.

Ultimately, DRC produced 9,145 bottles of Romanée-Conti in 1964.

The quality of a bottle of 1964 DRC Romanée-Conti depends heavily on its storage and provenance.

As a result of its high value, counterfeiters target Romanée-Conti as one of the most forged wines in the world.

Therefore, it is crucial to buy from a trusted business like Arden Fine Wines.
