Romanée-Saint-Vivant is a Grand Cru vineyard for Pinot Noir red wine in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy.

It is situated within the commune of Vosne-Romanée.

It takes its name from the Abbey of Saint Vivant, which in Medieval times owned several vineyards among the Vosne-Romanée Grands Crus.

There are several different vineyard owners in Romanée-Saint-Vivant today, although Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is the largest.

  • In 1966, the last member of the Marey-Monge family leased the remaining 5.28 hectares to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and gave them an option to be first buyers if the vineyard came up for sale.
  • In 1988, the vineyard was bought from the Neyroud family, which had inherited it from Ms Marey-Monge.
  • Wine from the time when Domaine de la Romanée-Conti leased it rather than owned it also has the name Marey-Monge on the label.

This is also very primary and backward as hints of supremely elegant and seductive exceptionally ripe black fruit aromas replete with soy, hoisin, clove and anise nuances merge into wonderfully fine and refined linear and firmly structured flavors that culminate in a precise, pure and driving finish that goes on and on.

This is a really impressive effort that offers terrific potential but fans of this wine should note that it is arguably more masculine than it usually is yet at the same time utterly seamless. A ‘wow’ wine that is perhaps the ripest of the DRC ’05s.

A true knockout that is sheer class.
