Romanée-Saint-Vivant is a Grand Cru vineyard for Pinot Noir red wine in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy.

This vineyard is situated within the commune of Vosne-Romanée.

It takes its name from the Abbey of Saint Vivant, which in Medieval times owned several vineyards among the Vosne-Romanée Grands Crus.

There are several different vineyard owners in Romanée-Saint-Vivant today, although Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is the largest.

  • In 1966, the last member of the Marey-Monge family leased the remaining 5.28 hectares to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
  • Then they gave them an option to be first buyers if the vineyard would come up for sale.
  • In 1988, the Neyroud family bought the vineyard, which they had inherited from Ms Marey-Monge.
  • Wine from the time when Domaine de la Romanée-Conti leased it, rather than owned it, also has the name Marey-Monge on the label.

Only Grand Cru wines are produced by the Domaine, including this Romanée-Saint-Vivant, made from their 5.28-hectare plot.

DRC Romanée-St-Vivant 1984

Despite the region’s cold, wet spring and late-summer thunderstorms leading to the overall poor and difficult vintage of 1984, this specific bottling surprises with its elegance and longevity.

At over 40 years old, this wine has matured into a fully savoury profile.

It exhibits a nose of sandalwood spice, dried flowers, black earth, and root vegetables.

The palate presents mellow fruit flavours and a silky, elegant texture.

This 1984 DRC wine offers a lighter body compared to more powerful vintages, though well-preserved bottles – like these at Arden Fine Wines – still showcase great elegance and length.

Pair it ideally with game birds like duck or goose.

In 1984, DRC produced 13,984 bottles of Romanée-St-Vivant.
