Description
Arden Fine Wines in London offers this DRC Grands Échézeaux 1983.
The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) produces the highly sought-after Grand Cru red Burgundy, Grands Échézeaux.
The DRC Grands Échézeaux vineyard is a 3.53-hectare parcel.
You can expect typical aromas of red and black fruits, such as cherries and raspberries, along with floral notes, earth, and spices.
As the wine ages, it evolves into more complex notes of musk, leather, fur, and mushroom.
The wine presents a harmonious balance of fruit, acidity, and refined tannins.
Wines from Grands Échézeaux typically command a higher price and exhibit greater complexity and structure.
In comparison to DRC’s Échezeaux cuvée, the wine from DRC Grands Échézeaux generally presents more complexity and harmony.
DRC Grands Échézeaux showcases extraordinary ageing potential, requiring you to wait at least four to five years.
DRC Grands Échézeaux 1983
The 1983 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) Grands Échézeaux Grand Cru is a fully mature, exceptionally rare Pinot Noir from a notoriously turbulent and highly controversial vintage in Burgundy.
The 1983 growing season was hit by devastating mid-summer hail and humid weather that caused widespread rot and “hail taint” across the Côte de Nuits.
Consequently, many 1983 Burgundies suffered from a metallic, dry, or distinctly unpleasant flavour profile.
However, DRC handled these immense challenges better than almost anyone.
Through ruthless, painstaking sorting of their grapes, they managed to craft a highly respected, surprisingly powerful wine that completely defied the vintage’s poor reputation, earning a status among the few “superstars” of 1983.
Overall, DRC created 15,955 bottles of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grands Échézeaux in 1983.
As a result, this vintage is very scarce now.
