The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) Grands Échézeaux is a highly sought-after Grand Cru red Burgundy.

The Grands Échezeaux vineyard produces is a 3.53-hectare parcel.

You can expect typical aromas of red and black fruits, such as cherries and raspberries, along with floral notes, earth, and spices.

As the wine ages, it evolves into more complex notes of musk, leather, fur, and mushroom.

The wine presents a harmonious balance of fruit, acidity, and refined tannins.

Wines from Grands Échezeaux typically command a higher price and exhibit greater complexity and structure.

In comparison to DRC’s Échezeaux cuvée, the wine from Grands Échezeaux generally presents more complexity and harmony.

DRC Grands Échezeaux showcases extraordinary ageing potential, requiring you to wait at least four to five years.

DRC Grands Échezeaux 1959

The DRC Grands Échezeaux 1959 is a vintage Pinot Noir from the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, a highly collectible and famous wine producer in Burgundy.

The producer describes it as the fastest maturing and least complex of their wines; furthermore, it displays a delightful clarity of expression with a seductive tenderness and firm structure.

Moreover, the 1959 vintage is considered one of the best, producing a rich and powerful yet elegant wine that has aged gracefully, characterised by a light to medium ruby colour and a light to medium body.

While the wine is fully mature, an expert tasting note by Robert Parker describes it as a decadent and stunning experience; in fact, there are no signs of fatigue or oxidation.

In addition, the colour is a light- to medium-ruby with considerable amber.

Additionally, the nose has a stunning bouquet of smoked meats, herbs, oriental spices, and sweet jammy fruit.

On the palate, it is an expansive, sweet, and viscous wine with a high alcohol content, thus offering “extraordinary pleasure.”

In 1959, the winery produced 17,556 bottles of DRC Grands Échezeaux.
