Château Lafite Rothschild

Lafite Rothschild wine steeped in a history that started in the late 17th century, when Jacques de Ségur first planted the vineyards.

In the early 18th century, Nicolas-Marie-Alexandre de Ségur, the Marquis de Ségur, who inherited the estate, marketed the wines to the nobility of France and across Europe.

When Lafite entered the court of Versailles, demand for the wine reached record heights.

The Marquis de Ségur earned the title “The Prince of Vines”.

In 1868, Baron James de Rothschild purchased the Château.

The Rothschilds have owned the estate ever since.

Lafite Rothschild possesses one of the largest vineyard areas in the Médoc, with 112 hectares that yield about 45,000 cases annually.

Pauillac sits on the left bank of the Gironde estuary, approximately 40km North of Bordeaux.

With the tempering influence of the estuary and a great diversity of soils originating from both the Massif Central and the Pyrenees, Pauillac boasts exceptional climatic and geological conditions to produce outstanding wines.

Lafite Rothschild lies to the north of the Pauillac appellation, bordering Saint Estèphe.

Lafite’s best terroirs stretch across the 50ha Plateau des Carruades to the west of the Château.

This plateau, which is the highest point of the Pauillac appellation, drains well and enjoys optimal sun exposure.

Its clay-gravel soils offer excellent water regulating abilities and provide optimal ripening conditions for the Cabernet Sauvignon.

Some 4.5 ha planted in the neighbouring Saint Estephe appellation count among the oldest vines of the property.

They deliver year after year grapes of outstanding quality for the Grand Vin.

1990 vintage wine for sale – Château Lafite Rothschild 1990

The weather cycle looked very similar to 1989, and the vintage dates were only days apart, but the character of the two years looks increasingly different.

Textures are lighter in 1990; there is less concentration and more flattering fruit, so they’ve been drinkable for longer.

Lafite 1990 has beautiful character and balance.

In terms of richness, charm and general style, 1982 comes closest, but the selection was far superior in 1990 so the strike rate of success should prove higher.

Finally, the award-winning Arden Fine Wines sells this 1990 vintage wine – Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1990.
