This 80 proof & 26 2/3 Fl Oz bottle of the 1962 vintage of the Campbell, Hope and King Macallan was rebottled for the Fine and Rare release.

It is the final vintage that the independent bottler’s name appeared on.

Subsequently, Macallan assumed full responsibility for their own bottling in 1980.

Originally imported into Italy by Fratelli Rinaldi.

A HISTORY OF THE MACALLAN

The original name of the area was “Maghellan”, which the Gaelic word “magh” meaning fertile ground.

Furthermore, Monk St. Fillan, who held a close association with the church that stood in the grounds of The Macallan Estate until 1400, inspired “Ellan”.

Additionally, farmers made whisky on their Speyside farms in the area for centuries, using their surplus barley during the quieter winter months.

Subsequently, Captain John Grant inherited the Estate in the 1760s.

He then commissioned alterations to an existing tower house on the Estate – Easter Elchies House.

Meanwhile, a former teacher, Alexander Reid, leased the land at Easter Elchies in 1819.

Thereafter, he nurtured the land before establishing a distillery in 1824.

Later on, Roderick Kemp, a wine and spirits merchant, purchased The Macallan in 1892.

Moreover, Kemp cemented the long association with sherry-seasoned casks.

In 1918, Janet Harbinson became Managing Partner of the Distillery, investing cautiously to keep the business afloat during challenging decades.

On 25 February 1926, they laid down Cask 263 to mature.

Finally, they bottled it six decades later as the record-breaking The Macallan 1926 60 Years Old.

In 1943, Managing Partner of the Distillery, Dr Samuel Allan Shiach, adopts the policy of conserving stocks, selling only to cover expenses.

Time-honoured links with Spanish sherry oak cask makers and wine producers are certified with formal partnerships in the 1970s.

With a focus on selling The Macallan as a single malt, the first newspaper advertisement appeared in The Times on 27th March 1980.

In 1992, The Macallan purchases fishing rights to a stretch of the River Spey, one of Scotland’s foremost salmon fishing locations.

Excavation and building work of a new distillery designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners began in 2014.

The building opened in 2018.
